Abstract
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
(ADHD) is a neuro-psychiatric condition exhibiting inattention and
hyperactivity-impulsivity that are developmentally inconsistent with the age of
the child. ADHD is found to be
associated with learning disabilities, behavioural problems and social
exclusiveness. The studies on ADHD in India are very few and awareness among
people about the disorder is lacking. It was thus imperative to select this
topic on ADHD and make an effort to create more awareness and educate the
parents and teachers about the disorder, its manifestations and treatment
methods. The prevalance of ADHD among the
adolescents calls the attention of the parents, teachers and educationalists to
take actions for the improvement of mental health of school children.
